can I get there from here?
The Bikini Banked Slalom is located in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. A short drive from Salt Lake City up Little Cottonwood Canyon in the town of Alta.
Parking is located in front of the Historic Bay City Tunnel structure on the north side of the road. On looker’s right of the structure, there is a trail that provides a Short-Cut Trail past a few houses and reconnects with Michigan City Road. **Please be mindful that this section passes through private property and respect the area accordingly.
When you reach the intersection of the two trails, bear right to get onto the Michigan City Road. If the snow level is low, you will pass through, or over, a closed Forest Service Gate. From there, follow Michigan City Road uphill, passing through Chad’s Gap. Here the terrain begins to open up. Continue straight, bearing slightly left for approximately 100 yards until you reach the bottom of the course.
The top of the course is close to Pyramid Gap, and if the snow level is low, a large rusty Mining Ore Cart is visible at the base of the course. Michigan City has an elevation of about 9,400ft. The total distance from the parking lot to the base of the course is about one mile with about 800Ft of elevation gain. This is not a very strenuous hike, but if you are hauling gear or prefer not to stress yourself out before the race, allow yourself about an hour, which is plenty of time.

The name comes from the Michigan-Utah mine which was active from 1901 through 1919. The mine's entrance was on the lower portion of this slope (a little above the flats). It primarily produced silver and lead.
Originally, backcountry skiers used the name Michigan City only to refer to the flat area in Grizzly Gulch. The name is now commonly used to refer to all of the terrain on the north side of Grizzly Gulch that is above the flat area.
The old mine tailings make this the perfect place to dig a banked slalom course, using the rolling mounds and natural gullies to create banked turns.
